Kiva Friends is an online discussion forum for Kiva users, staff and supporters. The site went live on March 23, 2007. See: Welcome to Kiva Friends

Since then, the community has expanded into other areas of promotion, fundraising and networking for the Kiva organization.

Kiva Friends currently maintains Kiva's MySpace promotional outreach, with nearly 7000 friends and counting.

  • To assist the mother of a KIVA entrepreneur (Mark Agwonah) with expenses after the loss of her son. Completed

  • A percentage of members online shopping comes to the club, which funds loans on KIVA.org. - Ongoing

[edit] Helping GHAPE Project

  • The purpose of this KivaFriends project is to help GHAPE obtain adequate computing infrastructure so their staff can spend less time doing caluclations and writing reports by hand, and more time in client outreach. - Completed
  • The grand total raised came to $2,800 USD

[edit] Quilt Wraggle

  • A Quilt and 19 other prizes were 'wragggled' to raise money for KIVA.org, KIVAFriends Website, and to help fund New KIVAFriends Projects.
  • The quilt was made by a group of KIVAFriends who each created individual squares that represented KIVA.org to them.
  • The grand total raised by the 'wraggle' is $4,800.00 USD

The funds were distributed as follows:

   $800.00 to KIVA.org for Operational Expense
   $400.00 to KIVAFriends.org for Operational Expense
 @$3500.00 into the KF Quilt Fund for KIVAFriends Project support.

[edit] Mirembe School Project (aka Florence's School)

  • Kiva Friends learned about Mirembe School from a Kiva Fellows blog entry by Drew Kinder, a Kiva Fellow. Tremendous interest in Florence's work and school was generated and Kiva Friends kicked off a large fund raising effort to collect donations to send to Mirembe School. - Completed
  • The grand total raised came to $4,430 USD ($7,389,750 Uganda Shillings)

  • To purchase and deliver a working wheelchair to Regina Jose. - Completed
  • The grand total raised came to $ 750 USD

  • A relief effort for some of the uncounted thousands of people who have been victimized by the ongoing unrest that erupted in Kenya on Sunday, December 30th, 2007, the day the results of the disputed Kenyan national elections were announced. - Completed

  • The purpose of this KivaFriends project is to help GHAPE to purchase an accounting MIS (management information system) so they can more efficiently manage their loans and client deposits. - Completed

[edit] Mirembe School Project (aka Florence's School)

  • Florence would like to create a catering and hairdressing course at Mirembe college for young girls that have fallen out of school. Kiva friends have started the 7th december 2009 a fundraiser to allow to buy the necessary equipment.
